Trojans visit Footes Lane tomorrow for a massive contest in Counties One Hampshire.
St Jacques Vikings currently sit one place above their opponents in 10th, and Layton Batiste’s side know that a home victory will create further breathing room between them and the bottom two places.
The number of potential relegation spots remains uncertain, as it is influenced by events in the leagues above. As many as four teams could face the drop, meaning the only guaranteed way to secure survival is by finishing inside the top eight. That is now the challenge for the Vikings.
Last weekend’s crucial win over Sandown & Shanklin extended the gap between the two sides to five points. A victory this weekend would increase that margin and close the gap on Bournemouth Seconds, who sit just above. With a game in hand, St Jacques know they have a realistic chance of climbing further up the table, provided they can capitalise on their remaining fixtures—all of which are at home.
Earlier in the season, a depleted Vikings side was outplayed by Trojans. However, back on home soil, they have named a much stronger team for this rematch.
Head coach Layton Batiste will be absent this weekend, as he is travelling with Guernsey Raiders due to injuries in the front row. In his place, Dave McGall, Dan Brown, and Blair Campbell will take charge of the team.
Captain Tom Veillard returns to the starting XV after missing last week due to a holiday, slotting back into his usual flyhalf role.
Callum Gladstone, who was ruled out with illness last week, is back in midfield alongside Matt Lomas-Lloyd.
On the wings, Cam Le Prevost and Taylor Quate start, while the ever-dangerous Luke Sayer provides an impact option from the replacements. Kieran Creber continues at fullback.
In the forwards, Tom Creed comes into the side in the back row. Jacob Smith moves from No. 8 to partner with his brother Mitchell in the second row. Tom Yarwood also returns to the back row, joining Chris Croft.
This is a huge contest at Footes Lane with everything to play for. Kick-off is at 2pm on the club pitch.
