St Jacques Vikings, the newly crowned Counties Three Hampshire champions, get one last chance to run out in front of their home supporters in league action this Saturday.
Ray Smart’s side will bring the curtain down on a treble-header of action on the Garenne Stand at Footes Lane, when they take on Fareham Heathens.
They dominated Romsey last weekend scoring eight tries on the way to a 54-7 victory. With the league title now secure, the Sarnian side are looking to produce another good performance at home, whilst giving some game time to some newer players.
The Heathens have had a tough campaign but they have picked up some decent results along the way, and secured a narrow victory over Portsmouth Seconds last weekend.
Vikings will be without their star performer from last weekend, Gearoid Lee, who has failed to shake off a knock he sustained in the Romsey win. John Welbourne will deputise for him in the fly-half jersey. He has played several very good games this season and is an exciting young talent, this will be a big opportunity for him to showcase his abilities in front of the Footes Lane supporters.
One new name on the team-sheet is Noah Evans, the former academy player has returned from university and is set to get his first taste of league rugby with the Vikings this week.
Smart has elected to rest several of his regular players in the front row including James Mroch, Corey Wallis. Sam Kissask makes his first start at loose-head prop, having made several previous appearances from the bench.
Phil Le Noury returns at hooker, he was destructive against Andover recently and adds serious power to the front-row. Callum Murdoch also returns after returning from university, and partners Le Noury and Collin.
Another player making his first appearance of the season is Calum Spinney. He will pack down in the back-row alongside Jack Webber and Barney Paul, who is making his final league appearance of the season.
Tom Creed continues in the second-row, this week partnered with Tor Ritchie-Bandy. Mitch Smith and Jacob Smith are also absent, with the former in the Guernsey Raiders squad this weekend.
Centre Oscar Bailey has been recalled to the Raiders squad this weekend, but Lucas Barker returns following an ankle injury. He partners with Joe Le Roux in the midfield.
Matt Lomas continues to lead the side from fullback, and he is joined by Kieran Creber. Sam Ferry completes the back-field trio on the wing.
Scrum-half Dale Rutledge returns from holiday to take a place amongst the replacements, joining with forwards Michael Smith and Chris Croft.
The Vikings will be hoping to end their home season in style, whilst getting a look at several new players.
The action on the day is kicks off at 11.30 with the under 16’s v Midhurst, and then the Raiders Ladies vs Streatham & Croydon at 1pm on the Garenne Stand.
