Vikings return to competitive action this Saturday as they host Millbrook at Footes Lane, with kick-off at 1:30pm, in what shapes up to be an important moment in their season.
The last two scheduled fixtures were postponed due to waterlogged pitches, contributing to a frustrating winter period in which momentum has been difficult to establish. Interrupted preparation, player availability and results not falling their way have all combined to disrupt continuity. This weekend’s fixture finally offers the Vikings an opportunity to reset and build some consistency.
Millbrook arrive in Guernsey having last played league rugby on 17 January, when they were beaten 36–25 by Portsmouth. They currently sit ninth in the table, two places above the Vikings, with both sides well aware of the importance of points at this stage of the campaign.
The earlier meeting between the teams produced a high-scoring contest, with Millbrook edging a 44–33 victory. That result provides added motivation for the home side, who will be keen to demonstrate progress and greater accuracy in key moments this time around.
A strong Vikings squad has been named, boosted by the return of co-captains Chris Croft and Tom Veillard, whose leadership will be central in what is expected to be a physical encounter. Lucas Barker returns at scrum-half to provide control, while Simon Smith makes his first appearance since injuring his ankle in April, marking his league debut.
In the pack, Mitch and Jacob Smith pair up in the second row to add strength in the engine room. Their brother Michael returns to the matchday squad among the replacements after several months out through injury. Tom Creber and Callum Gladstone again combine in midfield, a partnership that has delivered consistently strong performances this season.
Matt Lomas-Lloyd is now unavailable and is expected to miss the next couple of months.
With fixtures finally resuming and both sides eager to climb the table, Saturday’s clash presents an opportunity for the Vikings to make home advantage count and overturn the earlier result.
