It's a rugby bonanza today, as all three senior teams (Raiders Men's & Ladies & the Vikings) are in action, with the two Raiders sides competing at Footes Lane and the Vikings are just a stones throw away down the road at St Peter Port School.
At the start of a new decade, the Vikings coaching team are hopeful that their side can kick it off with a good performance and hopefully a victory over Hertford 2nds.
In the last game of 2019 the Vikings were competing and playing some good rugby against London Irish Wild Geese in South London, before ultimately coming undone in the second half in a bitterly frustrating performance. They get the chance to put that right next weekend as 'Irish' visit Guernsey, but the focus this weekend is solely on Hertford and our performance targets.
Head Coach Ray Smart is away for this match, so Matt Chammings leads the side which sees a big Vikings forward pack line up. James Regnard is back in the No 8 shirt, whilst Darrin Bellingham moves into the back-row as Mitch Smith is out with an ankle injury. Tom Creed also moves into the back row on the blindside flank, which has freed up space for Jacob Smith to start with Dave Harvey in the second row.
Up front prop Barney Paul returns after missing several games and young Tom Bray is back in the starting side with the skipper Leon Gardner at hooker.
Lucas Barker is in the Raiders squad, but Pierre de Garis has been in a great vein of form at scrum-half and continues. Matt Lomas steers the Vikings ship at flyhalf and can rely on the experience of Alec Bailey outside of him in the centres. Dave Davison missed the London Irish game but has been one of the top Vikings performers this season and slots straight back into outside centre.
Out wide Cam Le Prevost and Gearoid Lee start on the wings whilst Leon Collenette completes the side at fullback. On the bench Luke Skovronek completes another step of his comeback, whilst the two Le Noury brothers John and Phil will get the first chance to play together for the first time in over a year should they get in the pitch at the same time.
The Ladies kick-off the action first today against Southampton Ladies at 12.30pm, then the Vikings take on Hertford 2nd's at 2pm and then the Raiders do battle with Hertford 1st's at 3pm looking to maintain their top sport in London Premier.
Get down and support all three sides today in this packed day of local rugby!
