Bell names side for first away clash

Bell names side for first away clash

James Mroch3 Oct 2014 - 14:26

This weekend Jon Bell’s side face their 1st away fixture in the Hants Solent League, Sandown & Shanklin RFC 2nds in the Isle of Wight are the hosts.

This trip is the longest Bell's side will face this season, but the coach has been able to name a full squad ahead of the game. The recent 64-3 victory over an understrength Andover 2nd’s is still very much in the minds of the players as they will be looking to try and repeat that performance on Saturday.

Jon Bell has named a few changes to his squad ahead of the fixture, but is confident they have the right balance in order to put on another good performance. Bjorn Van der Kammen returns after being given the all clear following a suspected slipped disc and slots into the back row. Young Josh Kewell who had a good game against Andover, has made way for Bjorn and has dropped to the bench. Ben le Noury starts at loose head whilst the experienced Tom Chamberlain will start at hooker. Two very noticeable absentees are the halfbacks Phil Smith & Conor Murtagh. Both are unavailable for the game, so Jake Gallienne & Piers Ockleford will form a new half back combination for this weekend. Young scrum half Elliot Eastwood will take a place on the bench, whilst Airy Cleere replaces Sam Crawford at outside centre and Sam Pearson takes over Piers vacated 12 jersey this week. A man looking set to miss out for the foreseeable future is Dan le Huray. The hooker was forced off after two minutes against Andover, and has sadly ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Bell said ahead of the game that this week is again about performance, and if they play the systems they have worked on extensively then a positive result would be likely. “We are looking forward to travelling to our first away game. It will be a good experience for the lads and will be a real test against what we expect to be a strong team from Sandown. With a few guys unavailable it has allowed opportunities for lads to step and make their mark. Jake Gallienne at Scrum half is an example of that. Again it is about performance this weekend, if we do that then hopefully the results will continue to follow. Sandown are however ultimately are an unknown for us, so we will see how it goes.”

Kick off in Sandown is 12pm, keep an eye out on Facebook & Twitter for regular updates throughout the game.
