St Jacques Vikings visit Midhurst tomorrow, going in search of their second consecutive victory, following last weekends 75-5 victory over Rye at the KGV.
As coach Steve Melbourne said last week there will certainly be tougher clashes this season than Rye. This weekend they take on a side with so far the same results as the Vikings, won 2 lost 1, and who so far have only lost to the league leaders Shoreham. It is expected to be a step up in level in which the Vikings must respond.
They take a much changed side to the south of England as all of their Academy Colts are unavailable due to their fixture with Jersey Reds on Sunday. Of last weeks squad Leon Gardner, Ben Holland and John Le Noury miss out due to Colts commitments, whilst Brad Webb is unavailable due to work commitments, Hugh Birley is off island and Trevor Marquis also misses out due to an injury picked up last week. Alfie Penney is also currently ruled out after picking up a head knock in training last week.
Alan Myers starts for the first time this season, with James Mroch dropping to the bench. Captain Leon Collenette moves up to hooker from the back row and is joined by Callum Murdoch.
In the back row a first start for young Tom Rihoy at openside, after he impressed last weekend, joined by Brett McFarlane and Jonathan Laws.
Taylor Quate returns after two weeks out, and starts in the slightly unusual position of scrum half. Alec Bailey joins him in the halfbacks, whilst last weeks centres of Callum Gladstone and Johan Greenberg continue. Cashel Cahill starts on the wing, whilst Conner Sullivan makes his long awaited full return following a long injury break. Sullivan played 40 minutes against Rye and showed what a talent he is, and his energy in the back line will be a big boost for the Vikings.
Alex Lock is named on the bench after several seasons away from the sport, and also Nico Ashplant makes a welcome return to the squad after missing out all season with injury.
